The Blue House is a low-budget 120m2 (1550 sf) wooden-frame house designed for and built by two musicians. Location and mass were imposed by zoning. The interior space is articulated around three principles. Program-specific, the core of the house comprises a sound-proof practice room with a sauna on the floor below. All enclosed rooms are on the North side due to the northern latitude. To the South, spaces are open and interconnected: the mezzanine-library overlooks a double ceiling-height living-room, which opens onto a greenhouse and the outdoor terrace and garden. Interior windows allow spontaneous interactions, skylights extend natural light, and exterior windows frame feature trees and private woods beyond. Blue on the outside, the house blends in with the surrounding evergreens. Inside, reds and yellows reflect a warm light.
